Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was in the shamba with my wife weeding maize and had left my phone to charge. My brother told me that the transfer had arrived and I went to check and on seeing the transfer message, I was very happy and I went back to tell my wife who was also very happy.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I have been able to build a kitchen we used to cook from the main house,it had a lot of soot and visitors also had nowhere to sleep whenever they visited. I am grateful for GiveDirectly for giving me the opportunity to own a cow at a time I least expected to own one. Thank you GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I built a kitchen since I did not have one. I also bought seats for my house. I also bought a cow though I have not completed the payment.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I grew up as an orphan after my mother died of cerebral Malaria and my father died of a heart attack. I was left alone with my two younger siblings with no guardian to take care of us. I had to terminate my studies at primary level to look for money to support my siblings. We have been at risk of exploitation, early marriage (for my sister), starvation, and continuing the cycle of poverty. The future has been unpredictable for us with no hope of an education for my siblings or proper nutrition or health care but with GiveDirectly's transfers we can see hope.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening because I get to have time with my siblings.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship has been providing for my siblings yet am also so young with no education.
