How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I was able to use a better part of my transfers to buy household items which I did not have and some were worn out. I did not have good seats in my house and anytime I had visitors, I would have to beg for seats and utensils. I was very ashamed of this because my neighbours would always look down on me simply because they always help me. I was really looking forward to having my own and when I received my transfers, I could not do anything else but buy my own new seats, utensils, bedding and clothes. We dress well and I am happy about the progress I have made in life because of the transfers.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GD did well in giving us money and not an item. This is because everyone has their own needs and giving items would have not been very impactful as the money. I do not feel there is anything GD could have done better.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my last transfer on leasing in a piece of land which I used in planting sugarcane. I have always wanted to have a sugarcane plantation but since I had small parcels of land, I could not. This is because sugarcane is more profitable in large scale and I was patient one day I will be able to achieve the dream. I am glad I was able to harvest the sugarcane thrice which gave a profit of double the transfer. I used the profits to handle issues such as school fees and buying another piece of land for farming.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money is going uplift my living standards. I am planning to use my transfer on paying school fee for my children and also buy a cow that will provide my household milk in the near future.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when my children are from school and we share how the day was. I feel happy to hear my children's stories from school.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in life is that I earn very little income from my casual that jobs. Being that I am the sole bread winner, the little I earn cannot sustain my family to meet our daily needs such as food.
