How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
Previously, I have been living in a one-room house which served as a kitchen, living, and bedroom to my family. Today, I have a different story to tell because the biggest difference in my daily life for the last four months is that I have successfully built a kitchen which I have ever dreamt of. I can also pay school fees comfortable which is something that I used to struggle to do.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
My new goal for the next four months is to save money and pay school fees for my grandchildren so that they will be able to pursue their dream without any interference. I am also planning to buy them a solar system so that they can read at night.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
Previously, my grandchildren used to be sent home for school fees frequently. This really affected their performances but I had no option because my casual job was not generating adequate income. Upon receiving this transfer the biggest difference in my daily life is that I was able to settle the school fees arrears and now my grandchildren are confidently going to school with no worries of being sent home for school fees and their performance has improved so well.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
I expect my life to change in the next six months in that I shall have fixed an iron sheet roof and replace the grassed that one by buying building materials every month with the sent transfer. This is because at the moment the leaky grass-thatched roof of my house is in a deplorable condition which has made it risky for our habitation. I am also planning to raise livestock for revenue increase.

How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
My life is currently different from how it was in that I am now peaceful and happy. Initially, I could not sleep well because I would think a lot. I could wake up most of the time and start thinking of my financial problems and how I would meet my daily needs. This were the tough days where I could do casual jobs or beg from my relatives during bad days. I am glad that since GiveDirectly came into my life, my relatives are now surprised because I do not beg anymore, they are even wondering how I rarely call them to ask for help. I am grateful that the transfers have transformed me in that I stop being a bother to people but plan well with my own money which I received monthly.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
I still don't have new goals at the moment. I am focused on paying school fees for my daughter. I do not want to fail her as a parent. I will do everything in my might to ensure she finishes school. I am afraid that if I start working on other goals I might interfere with her education since I am not stable financially.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months is that I was able to enrol my daughter for high school. I had saved my two monthly transfer and paid the required amount. I had given up on schooling my daughter past primary education because of my meagre earnings but GiveDirectly brought the hopes again. I had thought of all the casual jobs one can do to raise enough money but I could not see any. What came in my mind was to sell firewood which could not have been enough to admit her in school. Right now as we talk, she could have definitely been a school drop out. I feel proud that my daughter is going to school just like any other kid in the neighbourhood.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months, I will have come up with a strategy to ensure my daughter finishes school. I am planning to invest some of the money to help me raise the fee and still be able to meet my daily needs. I will be a proud mother living a well-planned life. This will bring peace in my mind. Peace is what I have been praying for in my life more than anything else.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
I have enjoyed the best security in the last four months due to the strong steel door which I managed to fix using my transfer. Previously, I had a weak wooden one whose main lock was broken. I could just use the old one and assumed that everything was well with my family throughout the night. There was this one day that someone scared us by pushing the door but after this scary incident, I decided to buy a door the next day. I am happy that nowadays, I no longer worry about the security of my house.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months, I plan to pay school fees for my daughter without fail. I want her to settle well in school like other children. I will also have cemented my house so as to look decent. Currently, it is made of mud and so I have to smear it which is normally hectic.

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
My new goal is to own small livestock at some point.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my daily life is that my stress is reduced since GD payments just made it possible for our Solar lighting services by Safaricom Company to be resumed and our children are able to study for long hours in the night, unlike the time when the service got discontinued due to non-payment of the daily Installments since life had become more difficult financially. In addition, my family is no longer spending much on kerosene as was the case when the family went back to using kerosene lamps.
