How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
At the moment l don't have any new goals. But rather I want to appreciate the organization for its wonderful work that has uplifted our lives.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has empowered my people amazingly. I am now a dairy farmer courtesy of the organisation. Our economic status has also improved tremendously thus we are forever grateful. In my opinion, I have not witnessed any irregularities or inefficiencies because everything was done perfectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving my first transfer I thought of paying the school fees arrears for my children. This is because I have three children who are still schooling. School fees have been my major challenge because of financial constraints, what I make from the farm produce is not enough to cater for all our needs. Thus I used KES 20,000 to pay for the fees arrears, I also thought of buying a dairy cow so that I can increase milk production where I used KES25,000. I am thankful for the support that changed our living standards to a higher level in society.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was about 11 pm when I heard my phone vibrate and when I checked it was an MPESA message from Give directly. I was so happy and couldn't wait for the following day to go and withdraw. I was excited to initiate the plans I had.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the acquisition of a dairy cow. This means I will have enough milk and later on can sell the surplus so that I can cater for household bills.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With the first transfer, I spent Kshs.30,000 on purchasing a dairy cow which we now milk, and get two liters of milk per day. Before we use to buy one liter of milk per day which wasn't sufficient for my family. I am now happy that we can have adequate milk for consumption. With Ksh.20,000 I used in clearing school fees arrears for my three school-going children. I am so grateful that now they are fully settled in school and catching up with what they had lost when they had been sent home. With the remaining amount, I used it in purchasing food for consumption especially during this period of drought.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My last-born daughter who is in form four has been in and out of school due to fee arrears and so receiving this money will enable me to clear the pending KES 14000 of her school fees. I will then add one lactating cow worth KES 35000, to the one I currently depend on for income from selling milk. I have always aspired to live in a better structure since the one I live in is too old and leaks in water whenever it rains, thus KES 40000 of my transfer will enable me to achieve this.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am a member of a local savings group within this locality and we usually contribute KES 600 each monthly. We are 10 members and so the monthly contribution amounts to KES 6000. The money is spent on buying two goats for KES 3000 each which are given to two members. My turn came in 4 months ago and the goat I was bought for multiplied last month. This was my most joyful moment this year.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My daily income comes from selling 2 liters of milk daily for KES 30 per liter. This amount is insufficient to cater to all my household needs as well as pay school fees for my last-born daughter. She was sent home from school two weeks ago since she has KES 14000 fee arrears and I have been having sleepless nights since then. She feels hopeless since she is in her final year in secondary school and this might affect her performance. This is the greatest challenge I currently face.
