What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have three children in Secondary school;two in day school and one in boarding school.Their school fees has been giving me sleepless nights. The money that I will receive will help me a great deal in clearing the arrears and paying for their first term fees come next year.I want to transfer one of the children to boarding school. All this will cost me not less than Ksh 50,000(500 USD).I also want to buy one dairy cow. This will boost my income since I will be able to sell milk. What I will save from the sale of milk will help me pay school fees. The cow will cost me approximately Ksh 20,000(200 USD) .I will also use part of the transfer to boost my subsistence farming by buying farm inputs like hybrid seeds to plant on my 1.5 acres of land.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Waking up in the morning healthy and strong is what motivates me.I feel happy in the morning when I know that I have the ability to successfully fulfil the day's activities.I spend most of the day around my farm tending the crops and feeding the cows.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I lost my husband in 1989 and raising up my six children has been my biggest hardship. He left me with four young children at that time and I did not know where to begin.I was 22 years of age at that time. It has taken the grace of God to where I am now.We have slept hungry several times,my children have been in and out of school, two children did not go past primary school;all these because of lack of money.Maybe if they had gotten the right education they would be helping me right now.I depended on casual labour for a long time.Casual labour earns very little(1 USD a day) .Currently,I depend on subsistence farming but still it does not provide enough to support all the family's needs.
