How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has changed in that, I have got two acres of land which cultivated and I believe my yields will increase this season. I was also able to complete my house that had stayed for 5 years. Before receiving this transfer, I didn't have enough money to acquire additional acres of land and to complete my house.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has done well to give me unconditional cash which has improved my standard of living. On my side GiveDirectly has only done well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I lent out UGX 1,300,000 of my second transfer in exchange of 2 acres of land as security. In addition, I bought clothes, food, paid for transport and saved UGX 256,000 that I intend to spend on my child's education.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The greatest change in my daily life is that I wake up with joy because my home is now presentable incase I receive visitors. I have plastered my house and this gives me so much joy because I have beautified my house. Previously, my house could host rats that used to create holes on the walls. However, I am now comfortable and happy that I have plastered my house. I could not have done this without the cash transfer from GiveDirectly.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received a mobile money message in the wee hours of the night, and when I checked my phone I noticed it was from GiveDirectly. I was overwhelmed with joy and I shared the news with my wife. We spent a couple of minutes planning on how to spend our money. We were happy that our future plans were going to be fulfilled.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first cash transfer to purchase 20 bags of cement worth UGX 560,000 and 3 trips of sand worth UGX 300,000. I purchased house hold items like mattress worth UGX 110,000 and I also lent out UGX 730,000. The remaining cash transfer was spent on paying the builders.
