How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the coming year and beyond, I would like to establish an income-generating activity to support my husband in taking care of our family, relieving him of some financial burden. Although I haven't decided on a specific business yet, I am actively exploring my options and remain optimistic about the possibilities. I intend to use the upcoming transfers to pursue this goal. Having an additional source of income will ensure that our family is adequately provided for, giving me peace of mind. Moreover, it will serve as a lasting legacy even after the program concludes.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I thank God and always pray for those who provided us with this financial support. It has truly transformed my life and the lives of my two children. With my recent transfer, I allocated $45 to buy a goat, knowing that these transfers will soon end and the goat will serve as future financial security. I also spent $37 on food for my family, as we did not have enough in the house. Additionally, I used $10 for a doctor's consultation and medication, and $10 to pay fees for my two school-going children to ensure they are not sent home for unpaid balances.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My objective for this year is to establish an additional source of income to supplement my husband's income. While I have not settled on a specific business yet, I remain optimistic about the possibilities. I intend to utilize the coming transfers to pursue this goal. Having an extra source of income will ensure that our family is adequately provided for, granting me peace of mind. Moreover, it will serve as a lasting legacy even after the program concludes.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My husband works as a mason to support our family of six, as I currently don't have any source of income. Previously, we faced difficulties, struggling to afford food and school fees when my husband was unemployed. However, since we started receiving these transfers, I have noticed significant changes. I can now comfortably cover school fees, purchase essential household items like food, and even save for the future. Out of the transfers received, I allocated $59 to purchase two goats and a chicken, which I plan to rear and sell later on at a profit. The remaining $28 was used to buy food, as we were in need. Additionally, I allocated $15 to clear a school fee debt for my children, allowing them to continue with their studies. Being a beneficiary of this program has allowed me to plan more effectively, and I am sincerely grateful for this opportunity to improve our lives.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Looking ahead to the next few years before the cash transfers conclude, my goal is to establish a reliable source of income. Despite my current limitations due to the accident that paralyzed my hands and cost me my teaching job, I aspire to start a business. Initially, I am focusing on goat-rearing, with the hope that the livestock will eventually generate enough capital to kickstart a business. While I haven't decided on the type of business, I am optimistic that I will figure it out as I accumulate wealth through the livestock venture. Having a business will serve as a meaningful substitute for my teaching job.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Last year, I was involved in a tragic accident that cost me my job as a kindergarten teacher. Even now, I am partially paralyzed in my hands, preventing me from returning to work. Throughout this challenging time, my husband, working as a mason, has been the sole provider for our three children. However, his income is sometimes insufficient to meet all our needs. The cash transfers have been a lifeline, offering crucial support and easing the burden on his shoulders. Recently, we faced the loss of two close relatives, which brought immense grief and additional financial strain due to burial expenses. I used $34 from the cash transfers to contribute to these arrangements, providing some relief during a difficult time. I also allocated $48 to purchase two goats, intending to start a goat-rearing venture. I believe that raising goats will serve as a valuable asset during emergencies in the future. Recognizing that the cash transfers are temporary, I see livestock as a means to create sustainable wealth that will continue to support us after the funds end. Another $16 went towards buying food when our household supplies were running low. Additionally, the funds arrived just in time to settle a $4 medical bill that was pending for my son at the hospital. I am truly grateful for the support provided through these cash transfers.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Last year's accident led to a challenging situation where my arms were injured, forcing me to pause my work as a kindergarten teacher. This change required us to heavily rely on my husband's income from casual house construction jobs. His inconsistent earnings and the diminished demand for house construction have made our financial situation uncertain. In this context, cash transfers have been a blessing, offering relief from some of the burdens we face. I envision making choices that will yield ongoing financial benefits even after the funds cease, which include rearing livestock. As I grow the herd, I also aim to initiate a business venture that can contribute additional income to our household. The hope is that this business venture will not only fulfill my ambition but also provide a reliable source of income to support our family's needs well beyond the duration of the cash transfer program.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Last year, I encountered an accident that resulted in injuries to both my arms, leading me to temporarily halt my job as a kindergarten teacher. Since then, my three children and I have been heavily reliant on my husband for financial support. He works in house construction, but the inconsistent nature of this work, with fewer people building houses nowadays, has made it challenging for him to cover all our household expenses, including food and school fees for two of our children. There have been times when our situation becomes tough, and we go to bed hungry due to his lack of earnings from his job. Despite these hardships, I find solace in the fact that the cash transfers have alleviated a significant portion of the challenges my family faces. Upon receiving the recent funds, I immediately allocated $10 to settle the school fees for my two children since the term's fees were overdue. Following this, I used $20 to purchase a goat, which brought my livestock count to five goats, all of which I acquired through cash transfers. Frankly, I don't find it fulfilling to use the transfer solely for food expenses. I am aware that the cash aid program will eventually conclude, necessitating the presence of a sustainable income source. This is why I sometimes allocate a portion of the funds to purchase livestock. With the remaining $4, I bought food for my family.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am a mother of three children; two of them are currently in primary school and one in secondary school. All I want is for my children to get a good education and be well equipped with skills and knowledge that will help them in the future. With the four goats I have right now, I want them to give birth and multiply so that I can sell them and buy a huge plot where I will start my investment. I have for a long time, wanted to own my own plot of land and I believe it will be possible with all the savings I am currently doing. Thank you so much GiveDirectly for the monthly transfers that is really changing my life despite the hardship I face daily.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
In July last year, I was seriously injured in a car accident and had back and neck injuries. I can barely sit for hours nor stand so I am forced to remain at home and recover. I used to be a lower class primary school teacher, until when I was involved in an accident that made me totally depend on my husband and the monthly transfers that I receive from GiveDirectly. The moment I received my transfers, I was able to buy one big goat at $25 and add it to the four goats I have, so that I can have something to remember GiveDirectly with and also have something to sell when I incur any challenges in life. The remaining amount of $9 I was able to purchase food so that my family can have something to eat for weeks without a lot of challenges.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My main goal this year is to use my transfers to start a business. I have been teaching as a PTA teacher till June 2022. Unfortunately, I got an accident last year in July, and since then, I have not been able to go to work. So I have been over-relying on my husband for support. Just being in the house has been a bother to me, and when the year began, I developed a goal of opening a food cafe where I can sell cooked food to the Bodadoda riders. I will engage someone to help me, and I know I shall raise some money from it to support my husband in meeting the needs of our five-member family. For the past months, the transfer had been helping me to seek medication while some I used at least buy four goats. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for its financial support.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
In July, I was involved in an accident that left my back, neck, and left arm seriously injured. Though I am mostly recovered, I still get pains from rigorous tasks. Therefore, for now, I solely depend on my husband to provide for my three children and me. The casual tasks he takes in house construction hardly cover all household expenses, especially food and school fees. As a fact, my family slept hungry twice this month because there was no money for food. To help alleviate such hardships in my house, I chose to rear livestock. At least, this is a way to accumulate wealth that can be exchanged for money during financial dilemmas. As such, I spent $25 on a goat, which brought the herd number to four. Apart from that, I bought food with the remaining amount. I cannot get over how perfect the transfer timing was as the household had run out of maize flour just the previous night. It was a relief!

What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I received the transfer when I was at the hospital, where I had been admitted for about two weeks following an accident. I had suffered significant injuries to my neck and back after a shed under construction collapsed due to heavy winds and struck me. When Give Directly sent the money, I was yet to settle the hospital bill after running out of all my savings.  Therefore, I spent KES 2,000 from the transfer to clear the medical expenses two weeks ago before being discharged. I utilized the leftover funds to provide food for my three children while I recovered from the tragedy.

In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I love everything that you do and the whole process of enrolled was smooth and fair. However, I would urge you to keep your promise of sending money every month because delayed transfers delays our plans.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Every person desires to have investment which they can count on in future or in case of emergency, so do I. My goal was to invest in livestock but my dream was cut short by severe drought which swept all my livestock last year. It was such a painful experience watching them die one by one when there was nothing I could do about it. Without livestock, our household looked less active and my wish to buy at least a goat but my husband who is a mason was broke because it hasn't been easy for him to get a job and if he does, the little that he earns averaging to KES 300 per day is only enough to cater for basic needs. I spend my recent transfer of KES 3000 to buy a goat and I'm looking forward to add more with the monthly subsequent transfers.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had gone to fetch water early in the morning that day when the message informing me that the money had arrived and I was so overwhelmed I honestly thought I would tears of joy because just imagine I had no money and no food in the house plus my children are still very young and the thought that they would have to go to bed hungry exasperated me and made me so sad but my hands were tied. So seeing that money come in from GiveDirectly was blessing in disguise.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Through this transfers I managed to feed my kids and also clear the debt I had in school but that is not only it , because this funds helped restore my faith in people and humanity. I would not have expected or even thought in a million years that a stranger or a program owned by a stranger from miles away could play such a huge role in my life and for that I am honored to have had such an encounter and I am grateful.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have two children but only one is old enough to attend school while the other is still a toddler and has yet to begin their education. When I received the money I decided to pay for my oldest child their tuition fee because I had a debt that I was yet to clear and plus it seemed like the right time and a great opportunity to do so because the debt would keep piling if I did not and it would eventually be too much. I paid KES 600 to her school and I felt a huge relief because that weight was lifted off me. Now as for what was left I went and opted for purchasing a meal where I bought six bags of maize flour at KES 600 because being honest,I had no money on me that day and the kitchen had nothing either and yet the kids needed to eat.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Getting this money means my life will change forever because it will boost my teaching job where I make 3000KES monthly. These transfers will help in educating my children, buying food, and also buying clothing for my children. Therefore receiving this money means a good life for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Being alive together with my family gives me joy and happiness. This is because people die every day but God has made me see another day another month.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Everything is expensive nowadays with the hard economy, the village is more like urban center nowadays because we buy everything. This situation has been triggered by the current drought that we are facing. The challenges of getting money to meet the family needs are too much on me and my husband because his people fully depend on us.
