Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money. It was around 9:00pm when I saw the message and confirmed that GiveDirectly had sent me the money as they had promised. The first people that I shared the information with is my family members who were equally very happy when they heard of the good news.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is that I now have peace of mind than I used to have before. I feel so much relieved having paid school fees and having leased a piece of land where I practice farming. I honestly do not know how I would have taken my child to school had I not received money from GiveDirectly. He is my last born child and the only one who managed to reach secondary level of education for that matter. He is therefore my hope and I remain optimistic that he will be able to clear his secondary school studies successfully.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 30000 to pay school fees for my son who was joining secondary school then and used another KES 10000 to improve and advance my farming. The remaining amount was used to buy food, clothes and other basic needs for my family. Had I not received money from GiveDirectly, then I would have had to ask for assistance through a harambee from neighbours. This I know would have been a toll order and it is for this reason that I am extremely grateful to GiveDirectly. As for the farming, I only had a small piece of land that helped me do subsistence farming and when I received money from GiveDirectly, I made a decision to invest in leasing agricultural land. I am happy that I now have a piece of land that I do practice farming in it and I am so much happy and grateful to GiveDirectly for making this a reality for me.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I use to have several cows that provided me with some income while providing my family with milk. But when my two children joined highschool in the year 2019, I had to sell them all to cater for their school fees. Since then I have been struggling to meet my family needs without any cow. I'm happy that Give Directly money will help me regain my financial control in the family. I will buy some cows and pay school fees balance.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Our son performed very well in his grade eight examination. We were so happy because it is our prayer as parents that our children excel in their endeavor
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
We have been struggling to pay school fees of about KES 40,000 a year. I'm a casual labourer and it is hard to meet this target with less earnings of about KES 200 per day.
