How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Completion of the payment of the piece of land we were buying when I got the transfer and managing to bring in two cows is a dream come true to me. It is unimaginable how these happened as I had no much hope except in God. I started paying for the land hoping to keep the installment going for more than a year since I had no assurance of the source of extra money. GiveDirectly made it possible for me to own and without the two transfers, nothing this big would have happened to us this year.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The fairness portrayed by GiveDirectly over the transfer distribution in our village was really amazing. This is a concept that has never been adopted by any organization. Most of them have been targeting specific groups deemed to be needy. With GiveDirectly, every household received the same amount of money and was tasked to plan independently on the expenditure. This saw our children's school fees paid, livestock purchased, and also investing in our farming. It is a well-done job free of faults since we managed to take some considerable development steps from where we were. It is my wish that we would have gotten continued support of the same kind to ensure a complete transformation within households and villages.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
It was in the past five years when we had livestock on our farm that gave pride of producing enough milk not only for our consumption but also served as security in instances that we had emergencies. School fees for my children demanded a lot which forced us to trade on the livestock that rendered us milk-buyers. It was until GiveDirectly came in that we managed to regain that status after buying a cow with the first and a heifer with the second transfer. With the remaining amount, I added it up to the savings I had and paid for the piece of land we had been paying in installments from a friend. I am grateful that we now have most of what we had been hoping for and all thanks go to GiveDirectly.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at work and I heard a message notification on my phone and upon checking, it was the transfer message. I was very happy and I jumped up and down in jubilation.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I feel like I have made a step in life by building a house which is bigger and with an iron roof. It has always been my dream to have a house covered with iron sheet and I will forever be grateful to GiveDirectly for making my dreams come true..

I built a house with an iron roof since I used to live in a grass thatched house which was smaller. I bought food for my household and clothes for my children, my wife and myself.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
This money will assist me to purchase a new plot of land. I am currently living in my parent's land where the land is still socially owned. I have been thinking of owning my own plot but I haven't save enough money to buy a plot. This money therefore, will allow me to purchase a plot which I fully owned.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of my day is in the morning at 8am when I take breakfast with my family. I am a watchman (night guard) at MG Ltd in Bomet County. I spend the whole night guarding Company premises. During the night I am worried that robbers might attack us but when I arrive home safe I really feel greatful and happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hard I have faced is when I was attacked by robbers at a place of work in Siongiroi, Bomet County in the year 2015. I was working for MG Ltd, a company that sells petroleum products in Siongiroi. During that incident I was tied up by the armed robbers and they managed to escape with the company's money. As a result of that incident I was laid off in my work. I was traumatized by the incident and it took me upto one year to forget.
