How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer since my house is now more presentable than before. In addition, cleaning it is now less time consuming and it is dust free most of the time hence our clothes and beddings does not get dusty easily. Also, I received the transfer at a time when life was hard and getting even a single meal a day was a big challenge. Being able to provide my family with two meals without any struggle made my life different.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well by giving out financial support and I do not see anything that they do not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my transfer, I spent KES 45000 in improving my house. I bought some sand, gravel, cement and paid for the labor of cementing the floor of my house. I settled in this so that cleaning it will be more easier. I am now glad since my house is nowadays dust free, clean and more presentable. Using the remaining amount, I bought some clothes, beddings and food for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was overwhelmed with happiness when I received the SMS saying that I had received the transfer from GiveDirectly. I could not believe my eyes and I called my husband to inform him of the good news. He was also very happy too and he asked me to go withdraw it so that we can come and plan what we were going to do with it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
This money is going to bring a lot of difference to my house. We have bought sand, gravel, and cement that we are going to use in cementing the floor of the house that we have been living in. We lacked the money to complete our house and we decided to start living in it, the house’s floor has been very dusty and this has been uncomfortable for us. Having received this money, we decided to cement it and hence we will no longer be feeling the dust and we will be able to live comfortably. We were also able to buy cushions for our sofa-set seats, we have been sitting on the wooden seats for quite some time and this has been quite uncomfortable too. Having bought the cushions, we will now be able to sit comfortably as we chat. We have also been able to buy a bag of maize with some of the money, this bag of maize will sustain us for quite some time and hence we will not be having any worries about what we are to eat.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used this transfer from GiveDirectly to buy gravel, sand, and cement. I plan to use these building materials to cement the floor of my house that we have been living in. I also bought 24 sofa-set cushions. We did not have cushions for our sofa-sets and we used to sit on them that way. I also used part of the transfer to cater to the medical expenses of my child who suddenly fell ill in school. This money also helped me in buying a bag of maize for my family, this way we will have something to eat for quite some time. This money has helped us a lot, we have been able to buy what we have always wanted. We thank GiveDirectly for this program that they thought of starting and may you continue with the same spirit of helping other people.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I greatly thank God for sending GiveDirectly on time to rescue us from the impending challenges. Receiving this money means that I shall afford to buy some pieces of land for my three sons because we are residing and farming on 0.5 acres that we inherited from our parents. In our culture, parents are obliged to provide their sons with pieces of land that would serve as foundations for their families. Unfortunately, the little income that my husband gets from his job could barely sustain us. Luckily, GiveDirectly will enable us to accomplish such an obligation, thus, signifying a promising future for my children
What is the happiest part of your day?
As a housewife, my day is a bit busy because I usually handle household chores and some farming tasks. Hence, the happiest of my day is in the evening when I am taking a rest while joking around with children because this strengthens the bond we have.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Doing crop farming that relies solely on natural rains has been the greatest hardship I have faced. This is because most of my crops usually perish immaturely due to prolonged droughts. As a result, my family has been experiencing instances of food inadequacies and huge losses owing to the farming costs.
