How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different from how it was in that, I was able to meet most of my goals. I managed to start my long time goal which was poultry farming. I also invested in agricultural farming which I am hopeful will give me good returns in a few months time. My house is now fully furnished and now it looks decent and worth living in. I do not think I would have accomplished all these at once with the small income that I used to get from casual jobs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done a good job. The face of our community has changed. People have established their homes and met many other goals that they could not have met were it not for GiveDirectly. Honestly, I do not see anything that they are not doing inappropriately.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my transfer on purchasing two mattresses. One for our use and the second one was for my children. I used to sleep on an old one while my children could sleep on the floor which was uncomfortable and unsafe from the crawling insects. I also added seats and some cushions in my living room since the ones we had were not enough to accommodate my family. Part of the amount was spent on cultivating my farm. I planted sugar on one of my pieces of land and I hope that I will get a good harvest and sell the produce in order to raise money for paying school fees for my children and planted maize and beans too on my other piece of land. I will store enough of the harvest for my family's consumption and sell the rest. Since rice normally does well in this area I got a great idea of leasing land from my neighbour since I am planning to plant rice in the next season which I believe will do well and increase my income. The remaining amount was spent on purchasing decent clothes for my children who had old tattered clothes and added three bags of maize which will last us until the next harvesting season.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the joy that I have of owning household items like seats and a mattress . My neighbours are nowardays saying that my house looks beautiful.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the money I felt very happy because I had never handled such a huge amount of money 10000 was the maximum. I prayed and just relaxed on the bed since I could not sleep anymore . When my wife woke up she was the first one to show the message and she was happy. We decided to sit down and drew a budget.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
In our village getting income has been a problem because we depend on casual jobs like weeding and planting which are not available most of the time especially when it doesn't rain and because of this, I decided to start poultry farming so as to get an extra income. Part of the money went on purchasing seats because I had old and outdated ones. Spending 50 KES to buy milk had also been expensive and this is why I also decided to buy a calf hoping to drink milk soon. The remaining amount went on leasing one and a half acre of land where I want to practice farming just hoping to cut the cost of purchasing food most of the time.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money makes me so happy. I will use it to start a poultry business so that I can supply them at the local hotels. This will improve my income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I am sleeping .
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is inadequate income. I work as a casual labourer and get paid so little yet the demands that I need to fulfill are so many. This becomes difficult that I cannot even pay my children's school fees well.
