How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Previously, my primary goal was to allocate the transfers towards paying school fees, as I firmly believed that education was the greatest gift I could bestow upon my beloved children. However, circumstances have prompted a change in my aspirations. I have now set my goal on farming my two-acre plot, from which I always realize a yield of 40 bags of maize. The surplus from this endeavor will also help me to fund my children's school fees for the subsequent terms. I have realized that by combining the benefits of education and the stability offered by agriculture, I can secure a brighter future for my children, ensuring their education and well-being are both sustained.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I hold the opinion that GiveDirectly excels at providing unconditional cash transfers that have transformed our lives. With these transfers, we have been able to cover school fees for our children and save towards constructing new houses. The struggles we once faced have diminished. GiveDirectly does well as it diligently follows up with phone calls and physical visits to ensure our well-being. Furthermore, the equal distribution of the transfers among the program recipients demonstrates its dedication to fairness and equality. From my experience, there is nothing that GiveDirectly does not excel at.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My recent four-month transfers helped me a great deal. I spent $60 on school supplies, and the remaining $50 went towards feeding my family of six members. The transfers were a lifesaver amidst the abrupt economic change in our country. Without them, I would have struggled so much. The economic hardship hit us hard, making it difficult to make ends meet. Courtesy of the transfers, I was able to provide for my children's education and put food on the table. Therefore, I can affirm that the transfers cushioned us from the harsh economic times.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
At the time schools were closing, my children had pending fee arrears. I have been worried about how to raise some money before schools open since the casual jobs I used to do are nowadays rare. So with the subsequent transfers, my primary goal is to use them to continue paying school fees. I believe that education is the best gift I can give to my lovely children. I long to see them succeed in their academic pursuit. The monthly transfers for the next year will ease my work because I will not be struggling as much as I have been before.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is a special type of organization I have known. It does so well in positively transforming people's lives. I am a witness to a positive change I have witnessed since I got enrolled in its program. For instance, I used part of the monthly transfers to build a 35-iron sheet roofed house. I had not imagined I could build such a house owing to my low income. In addition, I have been able to pay school fees for my child with ease. I least struggle nowadays. Whatever I get from the unpredictable casual jobs always helps me to meet the family's nutritional needs. There is nothing that GiveDirectly is not doing right.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
For the past four months, the transfers I have been getting are always in handy in paying tuition fees for my four school-going children. Two are in secondary school, while two are in primary school. I am glad I have found it easier to make them be in school most of the time. They are rarely sent back home for fee collection compared to before. In addition, some transfers helped me to obtain food for my family of six. It supplements my income from the building sector as well as the small business of grocery that my wife does.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My main concern for the upcoming year and beyond is finding the necessary funding for my children's school fees. They will be starting secondary school soon thus I will need a lot of financial resources to support them while they are in school. I plan to save a portion of my money from casual work and part of my subsequent transfers to reach my goal of $450. My motive behind this sacrifice is to invest in my kids' bright future life.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly, in my opinion, does well by providing equal transfers, which contributes to increased harmony and enables us to coexist well with each other. Additionally, because of the unconditional financial support, we have access to good healthcare and nutritious foods that have greatly improved our quality of life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Recently, the cost of necessities has increased, making it harder for me to provide for my family's basic needs. As a result, I had to utilize a huge portion of the transfer to purchase a half-sack of maize for $25 and other food items worth $4 for my family. I estimate the maize I bought will last me, my wife, and four children for three to five weeks. Having an adequate stock of maize has enabled us to acquire food with minimal financial challenges which have since enabled me to have great peace of mind due to reduced debts.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I plan to build a new house in August because the one I am staying in has become too small for my big family. I will construct a semi-permanent one with thirty-five pieces of iron sheets. I have bought some materials, and I plan to buy more with a budget of $1200. I will borrow $800 from our merry-go-round saving group that I will top up with my income to actualize this goal.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
First, you send equal transfers to everyone leading to peaceful coexistence among the beneficiaries. Secondly, through the transfers, you have transformed many lives; the elderly in society are now free from stress because by using the monthly tokens, they can afford to cater to their basic needs making them live healthily.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Since it was a school opening period, I used my most recent transfer to buy exercise books for my four primary school-going kids. Due to the increasing inflation rates, I suspected that the cost prices of school-related items would shoot up and hence become unaffordable to a low-income earner like me. I, therefore, bought several books for the kids and kept them for future use.
