What did you spend your third transfer on?
When I received my third transfer, I built a semi-permanent house of 30 iron sheets for my children. I decided to construct the house for them so that they would get a place to sleep and read. I realized that walking longer distance to find for a place to sleep and study could cause a lot of interruption and time wastage for them accounting for their dismal performance before then.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently, I run a general shop selling bread, packets of sugar and other household items. This has changed my life since through it, I have gained financial independence. I can now provide for my household members their basic needs like education, food and shelter. If it were not cash transfers from Give Directly, I wouldn't have achieved this.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my own opinion, I can say that Give Directly is more determined and focused about helping the poorest and this way, they do it well. However, I would only request it to consider visiting everyone who has been given help to see how they progressed.

What did you spend your second transfer on?
I built a house, paid school fees and bought food for my family. Before the transfer, I had a leaking thatched roof house. I therefore had to prioritize construction of a new iron roofed house. I now live comfortably. My child struggled to stay in school due to lack of money, I used part of the transfer to settle my child's fees balance, this has enabled my child to stay in school and study. I used the rest of the money to buy food for my family. I am grateful to Give Directly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I am happy that I now stay in a comfortable house with my family. My child also goes to school daily.

I spent 7,000 KES to pay school fees for my child in secondary school and bought 7 iron sheets at 3,000 KES to construct a business structure. (Had money in mpesa as withdrawal fees)

I am planning to construct a new and bigger house and also buy a cow to milk.

What are you planning to spend your transfer on?
We're planning to spend our transfer on starting a bricks making business to help with income generation and lastly use the rest to renovate and expand our current house.
What is the achievement you are proudest of?
The achievement we're proudest of is having been able to educate our first born child upto secondary level of education, she is currently in form two and we're hopeful that she will finish her education now that Givedirectly has also blessed us with cash.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship we're facing currently is on paying school fees for our daughter in secondary school and also her brother who will soon be joining secondary school as well.Our business is not doing very well and as such making ends meet is not easy.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I find time to cultivate in my farm with hopes of getting better yields come harvesting season.
