How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is better now in that, I'm so happy because I no longer worry about sleeping in a leaky grass thatched house. I have occupied my newly completed iron roofed house. When it rains, I enjoy the sound made by rain when hitting on the roof. I also sleep on a bed, mattress and new bed sheets which I didn't have before receiving money from GD. My household feeds on a well balanced diet because I could supplement by buying some food using these transfers. Prior to getting this money, I used to work on people's farms in order to get money for buying food. I lived a stressful life of looking for grass to renovate my grass thatched house which was dilapidated and soon could collapse. When it rains, my wife and children could complain a lot because we could not sleep since the house leaks.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my view, GD did so well in that I never thought I could sleep in a iron roofed house because there wasn't anyway or the other I could raise money for building a permanent house. In my community, have noticed that most recipients have spent these transfers on construction of houses, buying livestock, Motorcycles and set up businesses. To my observation, everything went on well with GD.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my transfer on completing my house construction which I had started after getting the first transfer. I bought iron sheets doors, windows and installed them. The remaining money I spent on purchasing bedding like a bed, a mattress and bed sheets and feeding.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in daily life is that I feel my life is good because I sleep in a nice house. I always leave home happy and overwhelmed with joy knowing that my house is safe from rats and rodents. In the past, I was over burdened by the so many rats in my hut. More so it would also leak during the wet season. I am very grateful to GiveDirectly.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt very overjoyed the moment I received a mobile money message. It was in the middle night when my phone vibrated. When I checked the message , I was speechless and this prompted me to scream on top of my voice. I could not sleep for the rest of the night . I was full of joy because at last I was going to construct a nice house for myself.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent a large portion of my first transfer to construct a two roomed iron roofed house. In addition to that, I plastered that house and it's now beautiful. The balance of the cash transfer I spent it on buying a goat that I can rear at home.
