Currently, my life is different from how it was in that, I am nowadays hopeful and ambitious in life. I am sure of getting my monthly income which enables me to plan ahead and manage my finances wisely. This is different from where I didn't even know whether I could earn anything since I was a casual laborer and most of these jobs are unpredictable. I must say that I am nowadays calm and peaceful. I no longer borrow money from friends and relatives in order to meet my needs.

My new goal in the next four months is to pay dowry for my wife. I miss her and I would wish to do anything to ensure that she comes back. Her parents had given me several ultimatums one of them being never to have her back unless I pay her dowry. We had stayed for 8 years but she wanted things to be official. I want to have my happy family back where my children can see their mother as they grow up. This why I am determined to reach this goal.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I was able to pay school fees for my children on time. Apart from that, I have also been able to buy food for my large family that consists of eleven people. Before then, I could get less money from casual jobs. My children used to be sent home most of the times. This used to stress me up because I ended up taking loans in order to make sure they don't stay at home for long. Repaying the money was another nightmare since whenever I got money, I had a lot of needs to attend to. The difference came when I was able to easily take care of the needs of my large family with ease. I used the transfer to offset the pending fee arrears. The money I got from casual jobs was enough to handle other household needs. I am happy and proud that school fees for my eight children for this term has been paid.

My expectation in the next six month is to pay dowry for my wife and establish a homestead. Currently, I am living in my parent's homestead which limits me from doing several things. My life is currently different from how it was in that, life is a bit easier because taking care of my family's needs as a single parent has been made easier with the support that I get monthly from GiveDirectly. Furthermore, I have managed to accomplish some projects like buying a goat. These are some of the plans that I did not know I could have accomplished. In addition to that, we are able to have three meals in a day which seemed as a luxury before. All in all, I am thankful to GiveDirectly for positively changing my living standards.

My new goal is to keep part of the money from GiveDirectly as savings hoping to pay school fees arrears for my orphaned niece. She is currently in her final class in primary school. I thought of saving early so that the money can be enough to take her to high school next year because my desire is to give her quality education so that she can be an eye-opener for a brighter future and mentor my children who are still young.

My dream of owning livestock seemed not to have been achievable before GiveDirectly came. This is because the proceeds I got from casual jobs which are my main source of income were so meager that barely sustained us hence the thought of having livestock over daily needs like food wasn't a priority by then. The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have managed to save my transfers for some time and used it to buy a goat. I settled on rearing goats because they reproduce twice a year and require little attention to rear as compared to other domestic animals. As at the moment I am optimistic that they will reproduce faster with the good care I am giving it and increase in number. Therefore, I shall sell some in our local markets. Apart from that, I will exchange some for a dairy cow so that I can get milk and sell purposely to double my income.

I do not expect my life to change so much because I intend to continue saving a large part of my transfer with the intention of paying school fees for my orphaned niece. My desire is for her to get a quality education. I know that if I do not start saving early enough, she might not continue with her education being that I depend on casual jobs which do not pay well.

I always feel so happy whenever I take a look at my children, they are no longer malnourished and unkept like they were some time back. In the six months,I expect my life to have changed for the better with my family having an income generating activity and we will not have to rely on the casual jobs which are so difficult to find. At that time,I will be staying in my compound.

I used to work so hard in looking for casual jobs to make ends meet for my children. So now, my life is currently different from how it would have never been had I never received the transfer in that I am able to feed my children at least all through the month.

My wife left because I have not paid her dowry as traditions require of me. So my new goal is to pay that dowry so that she can come back home.
