How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have always been wished to own dairy cow for so many years but I could not afford it due to scarce resources. Therefore after getting muy transfers, I settled in buying them because the milk that I will be getting shall improve my health and also gt some little cash from the extra litres that I will be selling to my neighbours. I have been buying milk from all those years from my neighbours and it was very costly for me. It will be a relief to me because I will be saving the money that I will be getting and start some other projects. I thank GD for blessing me with such assets because they have completely changed my life.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in our village by changing our lives. The majority of us now have livestock, good looking iron-roofed houses and sent our children to school. We can now be able to provide for our families effectively. I do not see anything that GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying some bedding such as a bed and a mattress. Previously I was using the traditional beds which were comfortable and always attacked by bed bugs. I then cleared the school fee for my daughter's 30000 who is in secondary school sitting for her final exam this year. I was worried because I had struggled enough to get the school fees but in vain. I thank GiveDirectly for coming into my life at the right time. I then bought some clothes for my family and mine 3000. The remaining amount I bought enough foodstuffs.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Owning these cows makes the biggest difference in my daily life. Besides them being assets to me, they will also reproduce and increase in number. I will be depending on them for my future financial needs. I used to buy milk but now that I have my cows, I will no longer be buying.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I woke up to the good news that I had received some money. I realized that I had received money from GiveDirectly after reading two unread messages that I had on my phone on that very morning. I was very happy and thankful to God and GD for financial support.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent KES 30000 to purchase two cows which I am currently keeping in my homestead. I feel having these will help me in future when they reproduce and increase in number. I will no longer be buying milk elsewhere, and the surplus I will be selling to earn an income. I also bought some building poles to facilitate the renovation of my house. Also, I paid a deposit for a solar panel at KES 2500 which will help me to provide lighting for my house. I have my children who are in school and this will help them in their studies. I also saved KES 10000 to pay for my children's school fees even as they prepare to resume their studies. I also did some shopping for them. I am spending the remaining amount to buy daily foodstuffs and also buying some household items.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been rearing indigenous goats since the demise of my husband 10 years ago. In 2017 I sold all my livestock for shopping and paying for school fees of my child who is in form 3 now. My intention was to restart my livestock rearing but this has never been achieved due to financial instability. Receiving this money means I will be able to start up goats rearing activity. I am planning to purchase 4 goats at 30 USD each. I will use the remainder for clearing school fees arrear for my children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening is the happiest part of my day because I usually spend this time relaxing from my long day of charcoal preparation and mostly I have a meal at this time when lack is on my side after selling my charcoal in the afternoon.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being the sole breadwinner, providing for basic needs like food,shelter of my family has been my biggest challenge especially educating my child. Being an illiterate securing a good job is very hard the only hope is charcoal burning, considering the nature of this job being tiresome and laborious it earns me very little at most 2 dollars per day. Sometimes I am forced to sleep hungry in order to pay school fees for my kid. I have wished to return to my livestock rearing career but this dream has never materialized.
