How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is much better even at my old age. I can afford to eat good food without begging from the community members. I am very glad that I built a nice house with the cash transfers. Before receiving the cash transfers, I foresaw trouble and thought I would not make it to date because I had no food in the house.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion,GiveDirectly did well to support the poor and vulnerable people. GiveDirectly has done well so far.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second cash transfer to purchase a cow and two sheep. Then part of it was spent on weeding the crops. I am planning to spend the remaining cash transfer on plastering the house.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that, I am now having two meals a day which has greatly improved my health. Furthermore, I was able to renovate my house which is now very comfortable to stay in and nice looking. Previously, I slept without food or had only one meal a day and my house was very hot since the roof was very low making it uncomfortable to say in.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I became very happy upon learning that I had received money from GiveDirectly because I knew I would be in position to renovate my house and buy food.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to purchase 6 pieces of iron sheets, 3 bags of cement, a trip of bricks, timber, nails, a trip of sand and paid construction workers. I also hired two acres of land, bought seeds (ground nut, maize) livestock, utensil, food and beddings.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy enough food for my family. This is because, I can do a lot digging due to my old age.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am usually happy at around 9:00am because I feel much better due to poor health. When it clocks around 6:00pm, my condition worsens due to the injury that I sustained during insurgency.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I faced is that, I am sickly and do not have enough money to support my household and treat myself, so I stay with two orphans that I supervise.
