How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different from how it was before because we now dress decently and put on clean clothes. We used to wear tattered clothes that had not been washed for so long due to the lack of money to use in buying soap or new clothes. Also, my transfer enabled me to pay for our house rent at a time when our landlord had threatened that he will throw us out of the house if I had not managed to pay house rent before the week elapses. This saved my family from the embarrassment of being laughed on by other people in our estate.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by enabling us to achieve our dreams by giving us unconditional transfers. I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my second transfer to pay for my house rent to avoid the landlord from locking us outside. Also, I spent some amount to buy some utensils for my family since the ones we had were few and were in bad shape. As a way of reducing our daily expenditure, I bought a solar panel and battery for lighting purposes in my household. On the remaining amount, I bought some decent clothes and food for my family after saving some amount.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Initially, my children have been sent home frequently for school fees and had to skip lessons this really affected their performance in class but since I received my transfer, I have been able to clear their fees and their performance has gradually improved. We currently live in a rental house which is not economic as the landlord demands a lot from us. In the near future, I am planning to own a house. I have been able to buy building materials to facilitate building which will be done in the next six months.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was happy when I received my transfers. I felt like a heavy burden had been taken off my shoulder and I was lighjt weight again because all my problems were going to be solved.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a big step towards alleviating me from poverty. I shall spend my money on building a semi permanent house hence stop living in a rental house.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I am together with my children. I feel happy whenever I hear them telling stories and cheering up one another.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face in my life is my inability to sustain my family. I am jobless and do not have a reliable source of income.
