How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I appreciate the help because, with the first transfer, I was able to start a farm and alleviate my family's food insecurity, and with the second transfer, I was able to purchase a dairy cow that is already bringing in extra money from milk sales. I want to make sure that my five kids' school expenses are paid on time in the upcoming years. I sell the pots I create and make $30 each week in addition to $2.5 every day from milk. These resources will allow me to pay for the school fees on time and even save some for later usage if they are properly budgeted for.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The reason I love the organization the most is because it provided us money with no strings attached and let us choose how to spend it. After all was said and done, we were free to choose what to do with the money, and I can confirm that my family's standard of living has increased. We no longer experience food shortages because to our farm's ample supply and the additional $7.5 each month we receive from milk sales we owe to GiveDirectly. There is nothing they are not doing correctly, and other villagers are pleased of their work as well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am happy that the dairy cow I purchased with the last stipend, which cost $300 has already given birth as then I have another one. We receive seven liters of milk every day from it, of which we sell five for $2.5 and use two for home consumption. Because we get enough nutrients from it, this has improved our nutritional status while also raising our household income and lowering our milk expenses. I have seven kids, two of them have already finished school, one is in secondary school, and the other four are in elementary school. The student in secondary school was sent home because we were unable to pay her tuition on time, so I paid the $200 in arrears. Thank God he got re-enrolled in school due to the transfers. With $28 left over, I bought my kids new outfits. As he was at work, my husband unintentionally burned himself with kerosene, leaving him bedridden. Hence, I am the only provider for the family, but even with my money from the pots I make for sale, it is not enough to keep us going. We are really appreciative of the help since without it, I would not have been able to accomplish everything I did.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at the farm preparing my farm for the planting season, since I was expecting a message from GiveDirectly I was keen on checking the incoming messages, upon confirming I saw a text message showing that I had received the promised transfer, I was so happy and excited, in that I immediately called my wife, I roke the good news to her and she was equally happy, we knew that all the plans that we had would be accomplished in good time,.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life today is that I no longer buy milk daily for our consumption, this is because I was able to buy a dairy cow with the transfer that I had received from GiveDirectly, thus I am hopeful that the milk production would increase thus attracting more income. I had a cow before though I needed to buy one more to increase the milk production. I am grateful for the support that enabled me to realize my goals within a short time.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a local businesswoman in the village, I have seven children, Upon receiving my transfer, I thought of buying a dairy cow, I had one cow before but I saw the need for another one to increase the milk production, thereafter attracting more income, thus I used KES 30,000 in purchasing the cow, I was unable to buy one before due to financial constraints, I then used KES10,000 in paying the school fees arrears for my children so that they could concentrate on their studies without being sent home, In addition to that I used KES 5000 on farming, lasting I used the remaining amount on foodstuffs and clothes, I am so happy that I was able to accomplish a lot in a short time.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
We have been going through a myriad of problems in our family. I have been suffering from cancer of the throat and my husband is equally ill, he had sustained over 70% burn on his body. This has rendered him disabled. Life tragedies have slapped us right on our faces. Mark you we have 7 children to take care of. Although I have had significant improvement, thanks to the traditional medicine that I still use to date. It is hope against hope for us since we are economically inactive because our bodies are feeble. Receiving this money will be a great boost for us, we have always desired to own a dairy cow. The one we have belongs to a relative and can take back any time he feels like it. This may render us milk insecure since we depend on it for household consumption and sell a liter day to get KES 50 disposal income. We intend to use KES 30000 to buy dairy cows and the rest of t money to buy food.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I have responded tremendously in my health , the same case to my husband. I did not imagine that I will be alive up to this time, my health had deteriorated, cancer is a terminal disease. I think for everyone health comes first , something that we have always wished for. It gives us joy to be alive and our health has improved. I am lucky I am one of the few surviving cancer patients.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial challenges is a great deal. It is like we go through a vicious cycle of poverty that is unending especially food poverty. As a result, we are food insecure. This has been exacerbated by our failing health. My husband cannot do any farming, I try a bit though it's a struggle. This has rendered us to live in abject poverty, we live each day as it comes with its challenges. There is no meaningful economic activity that we can depend on since farming needs a lot of energy that we are unable because of our situations.
