How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently, my main focus is to add stock to my boutique and schoolwear shop. I aim to add clothes stock before December since it will be a festive season, and I am sure of making some good sales. I also aim to add school wear and some stationary before January targeting the school opening days and most students will be transiting from primary to secondary school thus I will manage to make great sales too.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
What I can say is that GiveDirectly is a God-brought organization to us. The organization empowered the local people in a way that the majority of them who were keen to adhere to the officers' guidelines are now independent. People did some investments that are generating income for their families. What I can recommend for the future and the next destination of the organization is that it should never rely 100 percent on the information they get from the village elders concerning the villagers. Some of them have personal issues which made some people not to be enrolled.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon getting the second transfer, I used $180 to add more stock to my boutique and utensil business. I started this business using the first transfer. I am happy that the business is doing well and it serves my family as a source of income. After that, I used $200 to pay for my school fees for a certificate course in theology which I enrolled in at the beginning of this year. I am grateful because GiveDirectly ease my struggle in sourcing for school fees thus I did not struggle much this semester. For the remaining amount of money, I opted to keep it for family use.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I remember it was around 6 am when I had just woken up and gotten ready to start my daily work. I decided to check my mobile phone as I normally do every morning. I learned that there is a Mpesa message from GiveDirectly indicating that I had received my transfer. I was very happy for receiving my transfer, I kneel and pray to God giving thanks for the blessing that I had received. Later, I called my husband to inform him about the good news, he was very happy too and promised to come home for us to plan before we could withdraw it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now stress-free after boosting my business with my transfer. In addition, my child will be able to complete his studies, I am happy that I will also be able to resume my studies that I was forced to postpone due to lack of school fees.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My desire has been to boost my small boutique business by incorporating a variety of goods since I had few stocks. After receiving my transfer, I spent KES 26,000 to purchase additional stock like metal boxes and bags. Currently, I am happy that my business is thriving well and sales have improved since I am serving more customers. Also, I used KES 10,000 and add to some personal savings to pay part of the University fee for my son who is in his final year at the University studying a procurement course. I saved the remaining amount, with which I intend to continue with my theology course at the bible college. Earlier, I was forced to defer my studies due to lack of finances.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
It will change my status in life, upon getting this first transfer of Ksh55000 I plan to expand my business, I recently opened up a retail business in Ganze town and is picking up slowly, because I still don't have enough stock, so I end up turning down customers. I plan to buy cooking oil, and mix the business with mpesa because I see there's a big need for it around.People are queing up in one shop to be attended.i believe this will bring in lots of profits.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My children excite me because of their Good School progress, despite that they have been out of school due to the pandemic.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
We faced drought in the last season and I lost all my livestock I had heavily invested in, 4 cows worth 3000ksh and 4 goats worth 5000ksh. I recently opened a retail business, and there's less flow of customers, as my shop has less products on the shelf, so customers come in and end up disappointed.
