How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I had taken a loan to buy a motorbike that I transport milk with. Since I'm yet to service it all, im focusing on clearing it and I don't have any new goal at the moment.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
What GiveDirectly does well is empowering the less fortunate people in the society through the cash transfers. People like me have been able to uplifting themselves in different ways.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Before I was enrolled in the program, I was employed in a local welding farm and that's how I used to earn living because I was the breadwinner of the family. Since this employment used to earn me salary only enough for basic needs, I wanted to venture into milk selling business but I didn't have enough capital to start up because I also needed a motorbike to transport the milk. When I was enrolled, I bought a motorbike on credit because I knew I would use part of the transfer to offset the loan. I spend KES 27,000 of my recent transfer to pay the loan and the balance to buy a cow. I have already started my business and I'm happy that I getting a better income that before.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 7pm after supper, when I heard an SMS alert on the phone I left in the charging area. On checking I was very happy to have received KES55000 from GiveDirectly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving this transfers is owning a dairy. Nowadays, I no longer buy milk but instead I sell a litre of my own milk each day and I am very grateful. Initially, I desired to have a dairy cow but my daily earnings of KES350 wouldn't suffice to feed myself and save as well. At times, I used to stress up with my daily earnings but now I'm relieved.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES27000 on a dairy cow as a source of milk and income for my family as I didn't have one before. I also KES 12000 on a heifer because it grows fast and will a long-term investment for my family once it gives birth. I also spent KES3000 on a sack of maize as food to sustain my family because I couldn't afford a sack before from my casual motorcycle work.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will mean that I will be able to buy a piece of land. I stay in my uncle's land and he can get it back anytime so buying 2 points of an acre with KES 40000 of the money will be great to me since it will give me the flexibility to do farming or any activity that I want. I plan to buy a dairy cow that I will take care of and sell the milk to Siongiroi Dairy and earn something to sustain me when the money that I get from my motorcycle taxi is less.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Having supportive relatives that ensure that I do not lack and being positive in whatever that I do has what has brought me happiness in the last 6 months.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge that I am facing is financial constraints. I am an evictee of Mau, I lost all my belongings and had to come and be hosted by my uncle here. Starting afresh with no money or any source of money has been a challenge to me but I am picking up slowly.
