How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I managed to buy building materials using the transfers and built a new house as I had a very small house that could hardly accommodate my large family. I live in a beautiful house now that is the envy of the whole village. My family can also eat well because I have a business that generates daily income for their upkeep.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
They send the transfers directly to us and their help does not pass through other intermediaries. That what makes them stand out unlike other NGOs which deals with the people they help through other people or groups in the village leading to a lot of fraud and
I cannot attest to anything that GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I had built a new house using the first transfer by buying more building materials i.e Iron sheets and poles but ran out cash before I bought tiles and cement to finish beautifying my house. I spent the last transfer on buying more building materials i.e cement and tiles that I used to plaster my floor. I used the rest to buy wheat flour and cooking oil to restock my business to boost its profits to increase our income. My family depends on this business for their day- to- day provision.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The major difference right now is that I now have a new house, in addition to new bedding that I could not afford in the past. My children used to sleep on a mat in the past but right now they sleep comfortably on their mattresses.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was so happy the moment I got the money. I am happy because I can now eat the kind of meals that I could not afford in the past.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used the cash to buy a few bags of cement, one truck of sand and timber that I have used in building a new house structure. The house I had before was in such a dilapidated state and that is why I opted to get a new house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will bring more joy to my family. I shall spend the transfer to accomplish my long term plan of investing in sugar farming which will greatly boost my income in a span of two years.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon when I have made small sales and I have managed to provide lunch for my children. I feel so happy to see them enjoying lunch together.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face in life is my inability to support my family of seven members. We only rely on our small business which does not generate revenues sufficient to meet the family's needs.
