How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My desire is for me to be able to construct a house for myself. Thus I plan to realise this goal by saving the profit that I would be earning from my business.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has uplifted the living standards of our people in our society. They were true to their words and kept their promise by giving out the promised transfer the way it was intended. At the moment they were all empowered in so many ways. Thus we are forever grateful. In my interaction with the staff, I have witnessed anything that was not done well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Starting a business has been my innermost desire. Upon receiving my second transfer, I ventured into buying and selling maize. The transfer came as a blessing in my life because I used the entire KES 53150 on starting the business. It was so hard for me to realise this goal in the past due to financial constraints but I am glad to have accomplished this dream finally. GiveDirectly has brought so much happiness to my life thus I am grateful for the support that came at the right time of need.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I woke up to good news from Give directly. I had received an MPESA message at 11pm confirming the promised cash transfer. I was so excited about the news and immediately shared it with my household members and they were equally joyous.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life after receiving my first transfer is owning my cow which is currently supplying us with enough milk for consumption. I am so thankful to Give directly for the support that has brought changes to my family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent Kshs.35,000 in buying a heifer that has just calfed and producing adequate milk for consumption. I use to buy milk daily from my neighbor and would pay my bill monthly since depending on manual jobs wouldn't meet all my needs. With Kshs.5,000, I used to settle a debt that had accrued for a long. I am grateful that I have now settled. I also spent Ksh.3,000 in buying a sack of maize which will sustain us as we wait for harvest season in a couple of months. With the remaining amount, I spent on buying clothes for all my household members.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means having a better life. I have been a single mother and unfortunately I was not lucky to give birth. This situations led to separation with my husband.Eventually I resorted to come home to seek refuge at my parents place, the situation worsened and I had to find peace in my relatives home. My uncle offered me a place to stay and I had to go an extra mile to earn a living. My casual jobs of ploughing earns me an average of KES 100 per day and its again seasonal. This transfers is an answered prayer to me. I intend to buy a piece of land worth KES. 45000 and KES.50,000 to build my house.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the past 3 months, neighbours paid a visit to my home.I could not hide my joy since they brought plenty of food which has kept me for this long. This was a greater opportunity for me since I felt a sense of recognition in the community.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am currently facing challenge of financial constraints. The casual jobs that I normally do only earn me an average of KES.100.This amount is not enough to cater for my basic needs.I am so desperate and I have been living in fear that the owner might want to evacuate me.
