Bing a tea farmer, I have for a very long time survived on it such that besides the monthly income, I always get a bonus at the end of the year. Considering this bonus always come in lumpsum, It has always enabled us to make big investments. In the last four months, I have always invested all my monthly transfers to purchase raw tea leaves from my fellow farmers so that I can sell them under my name to the nearby factory in order to boost my tea bonus at the end of the year. I am now confident that I will get a much higher tea bonus as compared to last year. Besides, I have also diversified my farming techniques by introducing other crops such as potatoes. I settled on cultivating them because they fetch a good price in the market

How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
My life is currently different from how it was four months ago since I have been able to enroll my children in a private primary school to better the quality of education because before when they were in a public school. Then they could associate with their peers who were in private school there was a noticeable difference in their level of illiteracy and exposure. Enrolling them in a private school was not possible before since I could not afford due to lack of money. Therefore, ever since I changed them to a new school, their performances have greatly improved since they now get quality education and coaching.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
At the moment, I have two additional goals for my life for the next four months. First, I would intend to buy a dairy cow and add to my herd of livestock. I believe that expanding my dairy farming project will enhance a constant supply of milk throughout the year even in the dry seasons. For the surplus milk, I will be selling to my neighbors to make an extra income at the end of every month. I am also planning to cement my kitchen so that it will give me an easy task when dusting it.

Before GiveDirectly came, all the responsibilities were on my spouse and at times when I lacked some basic items which were necessary to me, I felt embarrassed to ask him because I felt I was overburdening him. I spent part of my transfer to lease a parcel of land under tea cultivation and make an extra income by selling them in a nearby factory. Today, I have a story to tell by mentoring my peers because I make profits of at least 7000 KES every month which I am comfortably catering for my own needs and my family's as well. This has also enlightened my relationship with my spouse since he no longer sees me as a nagging wife. Being able to live an independent life is the biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
I expect my life to change in the next six months in that I shall have bought a dairy cow. Meaning, the milk supply will increase and market my business even to other villages where I am also planning to sell in purposely to double my profits. In addition, I will have cemented my kitchen and the sanitation levels in it will have risen.

How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
Four months ago, it was a real struggle to provide basic needs such as food to my family and my kids also used to go to a public school with a very low quality of education. Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
I started a tea business where I buy tea from farmers sell it directly to a nearby tea factory. Previously, I was involved in the normal casual work in tea farms in my neighborhood. This job was so involving and strenuous. Despite all that ,I used to make meager earning and this would not sustain me and my family. Sometimes I was forced to skip some meals in a day in order to sacrifice for my children. Since I received the transfers from GiveDirectly, I opened a savings account in my Mpesa. This savings has enabled me to start the tea business which has grown tremendously. I now have some income to provide basic needs for my family and also provide the best education to my two children since I transferred them from a public school to a private one. All I can say is thanks to GiveDirectly.
