How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different from how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I am now a proud owner of a dairy cow. I believe that it will be calving very soon and I will have enough milk for consumption and sale to earn an income. Also, I currently dress well unlike before since I was able to use my transfer to buy several new clothes.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my own opinion, GiveDirectly did well by ensuring that every eligible household was enrolled and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfer, I spent a good amount to buy a piece of land next to the land that my father had bought it for me. I settled on this as a way of expanding my farm. I spent the remaining amount to buy food and decent clothes for my family.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I no longer spend on milk anymore as I still get some little milk for my cow. This has enabled me to reduce my daily expenditure and at least save some money that I can use in case of an emergency. I believe that this cow will be calving soon and my milk production will increase. This will enable me to start selling some milk to my neighbors and earn an income which I will, in turn, use to buy some basic needs for my family.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I realized that GiveDirectly had finally honored their promise by sending us the money in the morning after waking up. I became so happy and knew that I would be able to fulfill my dreams.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used part of my first transfer to buy a dairy cow worth KES 30000. Buying milk had been my daily routine and as a way of reducing my daily expenditure, I settled on buying it. I had always desired to own one but I could not due to insufficient funds. Also, I bought some building materials majorly iron sheets to use in building a spacious house for my family. This is because the house we are currently living in is small and cannot accommodate us comfortably. I will use part of my second transfer to achieve this. I used the remaining amount to buy one sack of maize flour and clothes for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy a cow.Being a single parent, raising my children is pretty tough especially when it comes to school fees as well as their daily needs.Since dairy farming does well in this area,I have always thought that having one dairy cow as a means of investment will help me even in the future as my children go to secondary school.I intend to make this thought a reality using this transfer
What is the happiest part of your day?
Early every morning,I leave my house to a nearby forest to fetch firewood. It is quite a journey and this tires me a lot.By afternoon,I will have made my trip back home to prepare lunch for my children. There is never any time to rest till evening. At this time,I manage to rest a while, talk and share the evening meal with my children. This rejuvenates me for tomorrow hence making evening the happiest part of my day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
As a single parent of two,the entire burden of meeting my children's needs is solely on me.It has always been difficult owing to the fact that my only means of income is sale of firewood. The proceeds from this job are hardly enough to feed, clothe and pay fees.Raising a family alone is the biggest hardship I have faced
