Emmanuel
received a $501 initial payment.
"My recent transfers which I received from GiveDirectly, I spent the whole amount on renovating and expanding my house. I purchased building materials and use it to extend another room to make it three and plaster the floor of our house. I opted to do have these renovation so that I would have a space where my children can sleep separately. I also wanted to make work easier for my spouse while cleaning the house. Cemented floor is easier to maintain unlike mad floor."

Lorna
received a $501 initial payment.
"Being a single mother I have been working so hard to provide for my family but I couldn't do much as what I earn I can spend on buying food and other basic needs. When I received my first payment from GiveDirectly, I spent KES 40000 to buy a young bull and a heifer for rearing. I invested on livestock so that with time I would have more of them. I then spent KES 5000 on buying clothes for myself and for my children. We now have some pairs to change with the old ones which we had before. I then spent another KES 4000 on buying foodstuffs for my family, KES 2000 on buying utensils and the remaining amount of KES 3500 on paying school fees for my children."
