Fancy
received a $501 initial payment.
"The biggest difference is that the money which I received from GiveDirectly, has enabled me to boost my business. My profits has increased since I earn more from blow-drying services and sale of braids. The profits has enabled me to meet my daily needs with less struggle.
Again, I got a dairy cow which I couldn't afford to buy anytime soon. I believe this would start giving us milk on the next few months."

"I am a teacher by profession but so far, I haven't gotten employment. I usually survive with casual jobs to provide for my family. I had no plans to build a better house anytime soon due to menial income. After receiving the transfers, I implemented my dream of having a good house for my family. I am glad that we have a better house now as a result of GiveDirectly's support."

Mwei
received a $501 initial payment.
"When GiveDirectly came to our village to enroll us to the program, I saw it was a new dawn for us. I have been working extra to provide for my family but it was never enough to save to build a better house. When I got my first transfers, I spent KES 45000 on purchasing ironsheets, nails, timber and building posts for house construction. Now I got a two room house which is complete and we recently moved in. We are no longer rained on like it use to be with our previous house which had leaking roof. The remaining portion of approximately KES 9500, I spent on paying school fees for my five children who are in school."
