"The biggest challenge we face currently is landslides which destroyed our gardens leaving us limited sources of food hence having only two meals a day. It continues to threaten us by developing cracks which keeps us worried that we may be swept away."

Lydia
received a $428 initial payment.
"Purchasing our piece of land was one of the top priorities on our bucket list as soon as we were told we'd receive unconditional cash. I remember it was around 3 p.m., and I was relaxing at home when I heard my message tone buzz. When I checked to see what the message was about, I was surprised to see that I had received a large sum of money from GiveDirectly. This was the best thing that had ever happened to me, and I was overjoyed and content that my dream would finally come true. I then informed my spouse, who was equally delighted and grateful."

Ghasia
received a $27 fourteenth payment.
"My main goal in the next one year and beyond is to see my children go to school without being sent home for school fees. Getting money to settle their school fees had been one great challenge owing to the fact that my husband and I no longer have any reliable income. I would ensure that I achieve this by majorly spending the transfers that I would be getting on paying their school fees believing that one day they would land better jobs in the future and support me as well."

Kabao
received a $27 tenth payment.
"I previously owned a green grocery store, but due to the prolonged drought in the area, I had nothing to sell and therefore I had to close down the business. My goal is to revive the business because I have reached a fixed point of not being to be in a better position to fully support my family. I would want to save part of my transfers and add to the little amount of money I would be getting from my hassles to help me achieve my goals."

"I have mentioned that I was able to Join a savings group and I am saving money in the saving group as well as on my own. I learnt how to sow clothes but I do not have a machine of my own to turn this skill into a business so I am saving so I can buy a machine. My husband is also employed as a motorcycle rider which sometimes is a hard task since he does not always get business which ends up eating into his pocket as he needs to pay his employer. So we are saving so we can afford to buy a motorcycle of our own so he can be self employed which will ease our financial state."

"I now do a small business if plaiting people but I feel with more skill I could make more money and start another business to sustain my family. I would like to use my GD transfers to facilitate my schooling. My house is also not in the best of states. Half my roof is iron sheets and the other half is thatched, I would like to improve this. I also want to expand my house from one room to a three roomed house so I can have a kitchen a living room space and the sleeping space separate. I have so far bought five chicken using GD transfers which I hope to increase as the year comes along so I can have so many that I can sell and buy myself a goat."

Kesi
received a $27 tenth payment.
"I live in a one roomed house with my family of seven. It is a situation I am not very proud of. I have always wanted a bigger house to allow my children and us to have our own privacy. I would like to direct a portion of my transfers this year to achieving this goal. My plan is to save about $20 if we have a good food supply so that I can buy materials for the new house. When the house is complete my children will stay in this current house while me and my wife get to move to the new house. My oldest who is now 12years will also get her privacy."
